Robert Blake Science College is an 11-16 comprehensive school where everyone, both students and staff, strives to be the best that they can be.  We value every person in our school community and we are driven by an underlying ethos which is captured in three simple words – ‘Aspire Achieve Celebrate’.  The school is in an exciting time of change having moved into a brand new building in November 2012 and a new Headteacher in post since September 2013. Examinations attainment in 2014 was amongst the best the school has ever achieved, in a time of turbulence in the education system nationally, and student progress, particularly in the core subjects of English and mathematics is improving quickly.

Robert Blake students enjoy their school lives and are very proud of their school. Every decision is made in the best interests of students and is focused on improving learning. We try to create an environment in which students, regardless of ability and background, aspire to do their very best. We believe that personal and academic outcomes are equally as important and as a result we have a strong curriculum and extra-curricular offer, as well as a vibrant house system, which presents students with life changing opportunities and builds the skills and qualities that they need to be successful learners now and in the future. We are very proud of our young people and believe that they are fantastic ambassadors for the school. Students behave well and are polite and courteous. Student voice is active and highly valued by all of us. We operate a ‘prefect’ system which recognises the hard work and commitment of students over the time that they have been in school.

Students at Robert Blake have the privilege of a high quality environment within which to learn.  The new building is set in an elevated position about the Meads and makes full use of the outside space available.  All the wonderful facilities at the school support students as they recognise their talents and aspirations and do everything that they can to ensure that they are ready to learn. We also recognise that good attendance and strong partnerships with parents/careers are particularly important if students are to achieve their very best and therefore they are strong features in the day to day running of the school.

Please do take the time to look at our website and if you would like to know more about the school or wish to visit then please do contact us.

Adverse Weather Information

The following procedures will apply in the case of adverse weather conditions. The school will only close to students if it is absolutely necessary to do so. This could arise as a result of insufficient members of staff being able to make their way safely to school making it difficult for us to provide adequate supervision or  serious deterioration in weather conditions and / or transport companies making a decision not to operate their coaches.

The decision to close the school would be taken by the Headteacher.

The information would be published in the following ways

1.     A message on the school website

2.      A text message sent to parents/carers where we have a mobile number recorded in the student records

3.    Broadcasts by the following Radio Stations:

BBC Somerset – 95.5FM

Heart FM – 102.6 FM

To view the school’s Twitter, or to follow us, go to and search for @RobertBlakeSC

Further school closure details and school transport cancellations can be found on the Somerset County’s website (follow the link: Somerset Learning Platform school closures and Weather Affected Routes – School Transport).
